Located in West Lake Hills, the respected Eanes Independent School District (EISD) is one of the school districts serving the Austin area. The district consists of about nine schools which serve about 7,100 students. Since EISD is in one of the wealthiest areas of Texas, it tends to have excellent facilities, high ranking schools, and plenty of extracurricular options. With an enrollment of 2 400 students, Westlake High School is considered a highly desirable school to attend. In fact, more than 90% of Westlake's graduating class each year goes on to attend college. Although the school is neither a magnet nor a private school, it regularly outperforms both types of schools in nationwide and statewide competitions.
In addition to academics, Westlake boasts a very good athletic program. The school has won 26 different state championships through nine difference sports. Westlake's football team has won 71 consecutive district victories, which is a country-wide record. The Westlake volleyball team has placed in the playoffs for two decades straight, has won four state championships, and has also been awarded six regional championship. As you might expect from a school that devotes time and energy to its athletics, Westlake has impressive facilities for its athletes. Its Chaparral Stadium has a JumboTron" video screen, as well as many other top-flight amenities.
Westlake has an impressive array of extracurricular opportunities, ranging from community service offerings, to political groups, to special interests clubs. The school also has an impressive fine arts program that offers classes in such diverse areas as theater, choir, orchestra, band, ceramics, animation, multimedia, and much more.
Westlake, like many Eanes Independent School District schools, fosters a strong sense of school pride. The school colors red, white, and blue that are seen throughout Eanes Independent School District are proudly worn. The Eanes Independent School District high schools also have a magazine, "The Featherduster."
