The US Census Bureau just released its list of the top 10 fastest growing metro areas in the nation. Austin came in respectably in 5th place, w/ 65,880 new residents in 2007. The Austin/RR MSA grew 4.3 percent in 2007.
Texas in general saw a big jump in population, most of which was in 4 metro areas: Austin/RR, DFW, Houston, & San Antonio.

Nice picture – little photoshop?
Yeah Texas is enjoying a lot of positive media lately about the good real estate opportunities and population growth. Thanks for the stats and once again – nice pic.
Texas is for sure a growth state ood ecomonics, low home prices makes good for real estate. In Arizona we have also been a high growth rate for the past 20 years, lots of pluses when so much growth is coming into your city.
Eric – how about a link to the report. Would be interested to see how the Reno-Tahoe area stacks up?
Sorry about the late reply, Mitch. Here’s the source.
Thats a cool pic, Eric. I was in Austin last weekend, but didn’t get a chance to give you a ring.
I love Austin. Had my first taste of 6th street while I was out there.
Lot of great entrepreneurs in Austin too.
The secret is out on Austin. I am not surprised that it is growing so quickly – I hope it can keep its charm with the expected growth. On a side note, the new book by Barbara Corcoran called Nextville highlights Austin and the Hill Country as a “Nextville” for green home buyers and retirement buyers seeking the “fountain of youth” that you can find in a college town.
