Allandale Real Estate

This tranquil Northwest Austin neighborhood is one of the best places to raise a family in the city. But it's also a great place to eat, drink, and be merry. And though the traffic on Burnet isn't bad compared to most of the residential areas in town, Mopac is a quick drive away.

Allandale real estate is found between Mopac and Burnet, south of Anderson Lane, north of North Loop. The Allandale properties are endearing and affordable. And the local public schools are top notch with Brentwood Elementary and McCallum High School, Austin's Fine Arts Academy with a strong AP program. Mostly single-family, Allandale homes are the perfect fit for your growing family, or young professionals looking for a place with space.

Burnet Road is undoubtedly the cultural and business center of this area. There you'll find just about everything you need from restaurants and bars to pottery classes and tax services. For coffee and a bite, veg or not, try Pacha – an eclectic little shop. If you're in the mood for Mexican, you really can't beat Taqueria Arandas and Curra's Grill. One of the best (and little known) breakfast joints in town, Austin Diner, aims to please you and your family. The Poodle Dog Lounge is a perfect dive bar for when you need to get away from them. Or you could take them with you for a Sunday afternoon of “Chicken Shit Bingo” at Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon. And Phil's Ice House serves up killer burgers, it's also next door to Amy's Ice Cream, a legendary Austin staple for over twenty years. For shopping there's the H-E-B. Or you could try the MGM Indian Foods down the road if you're feeling up for an ethnic adventure.

Allandale is also a great area for arts and activities. Clayways has pottery classes at their studio and gallery. The Shoal Creek Greenbelt is nearby and Beverly S. Scheffield Northwest District Park is a huge public park with a pool, playground, picnic/BBQ areas and a baseball diamond. And if you're hard-up for ideas, the Allandale Reporter website keeps you up to date on the latest news clippings and neighborhood goings-on.

All in all, this area is the kind of place anyway would enjoy. It has all the flavor of any other eccentric Austin neighborhood without the unfortunate foibles of a city in the midst of overpopulation.
